Verse 1

Who is this Self that we worship? Which one is the Self? Is it that by which one sees, or that by which one hears, or that by which one smells odors, or that by which one utters speech, or that by which one discerns the sweet and the bitter?
Verse 2

It is the heart (consciousness) and the mind. It is awareness, sovereignty, knowledge, wisdom, intelligence, vision, steadfastness, thought, thoughtfulness, impulse, memory, intention, purpose, life, desire, and will. All these are but names of consciousness (prajñāna).
Verse 3

This is Brahman, this is Indra, this is Prajāpati; these are all the gods; and these five great elements — earth, air, ether, water, and light; these and those which are mingled of the fine, as it were — seeds of this kind and that, born from eggs, born from wombs, born from moisture, born from sprouts, horses, cattle, human beings, elephants, and whatever else breathes, whether moving or flying, and what is stationary. All this is guided by consciousness, is grounded in consciousness. The world is guided by consciousness. Consciousness is the ground. Consciousness is Brahman.
Verse 4
sa etena prajñenātmanāsmāl lokād utkramyāmuṣmin svarge loke sarvān kāmān āptvāmṛtaḥ samabhavat samabhavat || 4 ||
He, with this conscious Self, ascending from this world, obtained all desires in that heavenly world and became immortal — yea, became immortal.
