Verse 1
गुरोः कृपया देवि मोक्षो ज्ञानं च लभ्यते । तस्मात् सर्वप्रयत्नेन गुरुः सेव्यो विशेषतः ॥१३॥
guroḥ kṛpayā devi mokṣo jñānaṃ ca labhyate; tasmāt sarva‑prayatnena guruḥ sevyo viśeṣataḥ ..13..
“By the Guru’s grace, O Devi, both liberation and knowledge are attained; therefore, with every effort, the Guru is to be especially served.”
Verse 2
ध्यानमूलं गुरुर्मूर्तिḥ पूजामूलं गुरोः पदम् । मन्त्रमूलं गुरोर्वाक्यं मोक्षमूलं गुरोः कृपा ॥१४॥
dhyāna‑mūlaṃ guror mūrtiḥ pūjā‑mūlaṃ guroḥ padam; mantra‑mūlaṃ guror vākyaṃ mokṣa‑mūlaṃ guroḥ kṛpā ..14..
“The root of meditation is the Guru’s form; the root of worship is the Guru’s feet; the root of mantra is the Guru’s word; the root of liberation is the Guru’s grace.”
Verse 3
गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुर्गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः । गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः ॥१५॥
gurur brahmā gurur viṣṇur gurur devo maheśvaraḥ; guruḥ sākṣāt paraṃ brahma tasmai śrī‑gurave namaḥ ..15..
“Guru is Brahmā, Guru is Viṣṇu, Guru is Maheśvara; the Guru is verily the supreme Brahman—unto that Śrī Guru, salutations.”
Verse 4
गुकारश्चान्धकारो वै रुकारस्तन्निवर्तकः । अन्धकारनिवर्तित्वात् गुरुरित्यभिधीयते ॥१६॥
gukāraś cāndhakāro vai rukāras tan‑nivartakaḥ; andhakāra‑nivartitvāt gurur ity abhidhīyate ..16..
“‘Gu’ is darkness; ‘ru’ is its remover. Because he removes darkness, he is called ‘Guru’.”
Verse 5
गुणातीतो निराकारो निर्विकारो निरञ्जनः । ज्ञानरूपः सदाशान्तो गुरुः शम्भुः सनातनः ॥१७॥
guṇātīto nirākāro nirvikāro nirañjanaḥ; jñāna‑rūpaḥ sadā‑śānto guruḥ śambhuḥ sanātanaḥ ..17..
“Transcending the guṇas, formless, changeless, spotless—of the nature of knowledge, ever at peace—the Guru is Śambhu, the ancient One.”
Verse 6
शिव एव गुरुर्साक्षात् शिवो नास्ति परो गुरुः । गुरुस्तत्त्वं परं ब्रह्म गुरौ परमकं पदम् ॥१८॥
śiva eva gurur sākṣāt śivo nāsti paro guruḥ; gurus tattvaṃ paraṃ brahma gurau paramakaṃ padam ..18..
“Śiva alone is truly the Guru; there is no Guru higher than Śiva. The Guru is the supreme Reality, and in the Guru is the highest state.”
Verse 7
गुरुं विना न ज्ञानं स्याद् गुरुं विना न मुक्तिः । गुरुं विना न शान्तिः स्याद् गुरुं विना न गतिः क्वचित् ॥१९॥
guruṃ vinā na jñānaṃ syād guruṃ vinā na muktiḥ; guruṃ vinā na śāntiḥ syād guruṃ vinā na gatiḥ kvacit ..19..
“Without the Guru there is no knowledge; without the Guru there is no liberation; without the Guru there is no peace; without the Guru there is no progress anywhere.”
Verse 8
तस्मात् सर्वप्रयत्नेन गुरोः सेवा प्रकीर्तिता । तया प्रसादितो देवः प्रसन्नो ह्यभिवाञ्छितम् ॥२०॥
tasmāt sarva‑prayatnena guroḥ sevā prakīrtitā; tayā prasādito devaḥ prasanno hy abhivāñchitam ..20..
“Therefore, service to the Guru is extolled with every effort. Pleased by that, the Lord bestows the desired (fruit).”
Verse 9
यस्य देवे परा भक्तिर्यथा देवे तथा गुरौ । तस्यैते कथिता ह्यर्थाः प्रकाशन्ते महात्मनः ॥२१॥
yasya deve parā bhaktir yathā deve tathā gurau; tasyaitē kathitā hy arthāḥ prakāśante mahātmanaḥ ..21..
“In one who has supreme devotion to God and, as to God, the same to the Guru—these teachings shine forth clearly.”
Verse 10
गुरोराज्ञां न लङ्घेत न निर्विण्णो भवेद् गुरौ । गुरौ प्रसन्न इदं सर्वं प्रसन्नं भुवनेश्वरः ॥२२॥
guror ājñāṃ na laṅgheta na nirviṇṇo bhaved gurau; gurau prasanna idam sarvaṃ prasannaṃ bhuvaneśvaraḥ ..22..
“One should not transgress the Guru’s command nor grow weary of the Guru. When the Guru is pleased, all is propitious—(even) the Lord of the worlds is pleased.”
