Verse 1
अहंकारं गुरुं त्यक्त्वा गुरोः सेवां समाचरेत् । अहंकारे हते देवि सिद्धिर्भवति नान्यथा ॥२३॥
ahaṃkāraṃ guruṃ tyaktvā guroḥ sevāṃ samācaret; ahaṃkāre hate devi siddhir bhavati nānyathā ..23..
“Abandoning the ‘I’-sense before the Guru, one should serve the Guru; when ego is slain, O Devi, success arises—no other way.”
Verse 2
देहभावं परित्यज्य चैतन्ये मनः स्थिरम् । गुरुचारणयोः सेव्या तदा सिद्धिर्न संशयः ॥२४॥
deha‑bhāvaṃ parityajya caitanye manaḥ sthiram; guru‑cāraṇayoḥ sevyā tadā siddhir na saṃśayaḥ ..24..
“Letting go of body-identification and steadying the mind in Consciousness, one should serve the Guru’s feet—then attainment is certain.”
Verse 3
गुरोः कृपानुसारेण ज्ञानं भवति निश्चितम् । अतो गुरुप्रसादेन मोक्षसिद्धिर्न संशयः ॥२५॥
guroḥ kṛpānusāreṇa jñānaṃ bhavati niścitam; ato guru‑prasādena mokṣa‑siddhir na saṃśayaḥ ..25..
“Knowledge surely follows the Guru’s grace; therefore liberation is accomplished by the Guru’s favor—without doubt.”
Verse 4
गुरुं विनाऽप्यशास्त्राणि न किञ्चिदुपयान्ति हि । गुरुमुखान्नृणां शास्त्रं सम्यग्ज्ञेयं विशेषतः ॥२६॥
guruṃ vināpy aśāstrāṇi na kiñcid upayānti hi; guru‑mukhān nṛṇāṃ śāstraṃ samyag jñeyaṃ viśeṣataḥ ..26..
“Without the Guru, even the scriptures avail nothing; taught from the Guru’s mouth, the scriptures are rightly understood.”
Verse 5
गुरोः पादोदकं पीत्वा शिरसा धारयेद् बुधः । तत्पवित्रेण देहेऽस्य पापधूलिः प्रणश्यति ॥२७॥
guroḥ pādodakaṃ pītvā śirasā dhāryed budhaḥ; tat‑pavitreṇa dehe’sya pāpa‑dhūliḥ praṇaśyati ..27..
“The wise, having sipped and borne on the head the Guru’s foot‑water, are purified; by that sanctity, the dust of sin is destroyed in the body.”
Verse 6
गुरोः प्रसादलाभेन सर्वलोकोऽपि तर्पितः । गुरुसेवां परां कुर्वन्सर्वं लभते मानवः ॥२८॥
guroḥ prasāda‑lābhena sarva‑loko’pi tarpitaḥ; guru‑sevāṃ parāṃ kurvan sarvaṃ labhate mānavaḥ ..28..
“By obtaining the Guru’s grace, all the worlds are satisfied; the one who renders supreme service to the Guru obtains everything.”
Verse 7
नित्यं गुरौ प्रतिष्ठाय नान्यं चिन्तयते यदि । तस्यान्तर्यामि देवेशः साधयत्यभिवाञ्छितम् ॥२९॥
nityaṃ gurau pratiṣṭhāya nānyaṃ cintayate yadi; tasyāntaryāmi deveśaḥ sādhayaty abhivāñchitam ..29..
“Established ever in the Guru and thinking of nothing else, the Lord within fulfills that person’s desired aims.”
Verse 8
गुरुर्ज्ञानप्रदः शान्तो दयालु: करुणानिधिः । तस्माद् गुरोः परं नास्ति त्रिषु लोकेषु किञ्चन ॥३०॥
gurur jñāna‑pradaḥ śānto dayāluḥ karuṇā‑nidhiḥ; tasmād guroḥ paraṃ nāsti triṣu lokeṣu kiñcana ..30..
“The Guru bestows knowledge, is tranquil and compassionate, a treasure of mercy; therefore there is nothing superior to the Guru in the three worlds.”
Verse 9
गुरोराज्ञां परं मन्ये गुरोः सेवा परा मता । गुरोर्यः प्रियवक्ताऽस्ति स गच्छेद् परमां गतिम् ॥३१॥
guror ājñāṃ paraṃ manye guroḥ sevā parā matā; guror yaḥ priya‑vaktā’sti sa gacched paramāṃ gatim ..31..
“I deem the Guru’s command supreme, and service to the Guru as highest; whoever speaks pleasingly to the Guru attains the supreme state.”
Verse 10
गुरुपादरतिं कृत्वा सर्वकर्माणि सिध्यति । नान्यथा सिद्धिरस्ति हि गुरोः पादाम्बुसेवया ॥३२॥
guru‑pāda‑ratiṃ kṛtvā sarva‑karmāṇi sidhyati; nānyathā siddhir asti hi guroḥ pādāmbu‑sevayā ..32..
“By cultivating love for the Guru’s feet, all undertakings succeed; truly, there is no success otherwise than by serving the Guru’s feet.”
Verse 11
गुरुर्द्वीपः पदार्थानां संसारार्णवनौकिकः । तस्मात्संसारभीतानां गुरुः पात्रं परं स्मृतम् ॥३३॥
gurur dvīpaḥ padārthānāṃ saṃsārārṇava‑naukikaḥ; tasmāt saṃsāra‑bhītānāṃ guruḥ pātraṃ paraṃ smṛtam ..33..
“The Guru is an island of things sought, the boat across the ocean of saṃsāra; therefore for those who fear saṃsāra, the Guru is remembered as the supreme refuge.”
Verse 12
गुरुं विना क्रतवोऽपि न यान्ति फलसञ्चयम् । गुरोः प्रसादमात्रेण सर्वं सफलता भवेत् ॥३४॥
guruṃ vinā kratavo’pi na yānti phala‑sañcayam; guroḥ prasāda‑mātreṇa sarvaṃ safalatā bhavet ..34..
“Without the Guru, even sacrifices do not yield accumulated fruit; by the Guru’s grace alone, everything comes to fulfillment.”
Verse 13
गुरुतत्त्वं न जानन्ति ये जनाः सुखलोलुपाः । ते नश्यन्ति न संशयः संसारस्नानकारणात् ॥३५॥
guru‑tattvaṃ na jānanti ye janāḥ sukha‑lolupāḥ; te naśyanti na saṃśayaḥ saṃsāra‑snāna‑kāraṇāt ..35..
“Those greedy for pleasures who do not know the Guru‑principle perish, no doubt—being immersed in the bath of worldly life.”
Verse 14
गुरुभक्तिः परा देवि सर्वतीर्थफलप्रदा । गुरुभक्तिविहीनस्य श्रमो नास्ति फलप्रदः ॥३६॥
guru‑bhaktiḥ parā devi sarva‑tīrtha‑phala‑pradā; guru‑bhakti‑vihīnasya śramo nāsti phala‑pradaḥ ..36..
“Supreme devotion to the Guru, O Devi, yields the fruits of all pilgrimages; for one devoid of guru‑bhakti, toil bears no fruit.”
Verse 15
गुरुपादाम्बुजद्वन्द्वं यः स्मरेत् सततं नरः । तस्य पापानि नश्यन्ति ब्रह्महत्यादिकानि च ॥३७॥
guru‑pādāmbuja‑dvandvaṃ yaḥ smaret satataṃ naraḥ; tasya pāpāni naśyanti brahma‑hatyādikāni ca ..37..
“Whoever constantly remembers the twin lotus‑feet of the Guru—his sins perish, even those like brahma‑slaughter.”
Verse 16
गुरोराराधनाद् देवि गुरोः पूजाऽधिका स्मृता । तस्माद् गुरोः परं नास्ति पूज्यं त्रिषु लोकेषु च ॥३८॥
guror ārādhanād devi guroḥ pūjā’dhikā smṛtā; tasmād guroḥ paraṃ nāsti pūjyaṃ triṣu lokeṣu ca ..38..
“From all adorations, Guru‑worship is remembered as the highest; therefore there is nothing more worthy of worship than the Guru in the three worlds.”
Verse 17
गुरोर्यत्पूजितं वस्तु तत्पूज्यं सर्वदेवताः । गुरोरनुग्रहेणेह प्रीयन्ते सर्वदेवताः ॥३९॥
guror yat pūjitaṃ vastu tat pūjyaṃ sarva‑devatāḥ; guror anugraheṇaiha prīyante sarva‑devatāḥ ..39..
“Whatever is worshipped of the Guru is worship to all deities; by the Guru’s favor here, all deities are pleased.”
Verse 18
गुरौ संतुष्टमानेन संतुष्टं जगदीश्वरम् । गुरौ कुपितमानेन कुपितं जगदीश्वरम् ॥४०॥
gurau saṃtuṣṭa‑mānena saṃtuṣṭaṃ jagad‑īśvaram; gurau kupita‑mānena kupitaṃ jagad‑īśvaram ..40..
“When the Guru is satisfied, the Lord of the universe is satisfied; when the Guru is offended, the Lord of the universe is offended.”
