Verse 1
गुरोराज्ञां परां कृत्वा सर्वकर्माणि यः नरः । स साधयति तत्क्षिप्रं भक्त्या गुरुपरायणः ॥८१॥
guror ājñāṃ parāṃ kṛtvā sarva‑karmāṇi yaḥ naraḥ; sa sādhayati tat kṣipraṃ bhaktyā guru‑parāyaṇaḥ ..81..
“He who regards the Guru’s command as supreme in all actions—being devoted to the Guru—achieves his aims quickly.”
Verse 2
गुरुं विना न चान्यः कश्चिद् दुस्तरमातरेत् । संसारसिन्धुमत्यर्थं गुरुणा तरति ध्रुवम् ॥८२॥
guruṃ vinā na cānyaḥ kaścid dustaram ātareta; saṃsāra‑sindhum atyarthaṃ guruṇā tarati dhruvam ..82..
“Without the Guru no one crosses the hard‑to‑cross; through the Guru one surely crosses the ocean of saṃsāra.”
Verse 3
गुरुगीताक्षरं नित्यं यो जपेत् श्रद्धयान्वितः । तस्य जीवन्मुक्तित्वं स्याद् इति शास्त्रार्थनिर्णयः ॥८३॥
guru‑gītākṣaraṃ nityaṃ yo japet śraddhayānvitaḥ; tasya jīvan‑muktitvaṃ syād iti śāstrārtha‑nirṇayaḥ ..83..
“One who daily chants the syllables of the Guru Gītā with faith attains liberation while living—this is the settled purport of scripture.”
Verse 4
आचार्यं परमं विद्यां ब्रह्मविद्यां तथैव च । गुरुः प्रदर्शयेत् देवि कृपया करुणानिधिः ॥८४॥
ācāryaṃ paramaṃ vidyāṃ brahma‑vidyāṃ tathaiva ca; guruḥ pradarśayet devi kṛpayā karuṇā‑nidhiḥ ..84..
“The Guru, a treasure of compassion, reveals the highest knowledge—the knowledge of Brahman—out of grace, O Devi.”
Verse 5
गुरुकार्यमनुद्दिश्य यः करोति मनीषया । तस्य कर्मफलाभ्यासः शुद्धो भवति निश्चितः ॥८५॥
guru‑kāryam anuddiśya yaḥ karoti manīṣayā; tasya karma‑phalābhyāsaḥ śuddho bhavati niścitaḥ ..85..
“He who dedicates actions to the Guru—his cycle of action and fruit becomes purified, certainly.”
Verse 6
गुरोराराधनं कृत्वा गुरोः स्मरणमेव च । गुरोरुपदेशवाक्यानि मनसा धारयेद् बुधः ॥८६॥
guror ārādhanaṃ kṛtvā guroḥ smaraṇam eva ca; guror upadeśa‑vākyāni manasā dhāryed budhaḥ ..86..
“Having worshipped and remembered the Guru, the wise should hold the Guru’s words of instruction steady in the mind.”
Verse 7
शरीरेऽस्मिन् क्षणे यस्य गुरोः स्मरणमागतम् । तस्य पुण्यफलं देवी कोटियज्ञसमं भवेत् ॥८७॥
śarīre’smin kṣaṇe yasya guroḥ smaraṇam āgatam; tasya puṇya‑phalaṃ devī koṭi‑yajña‑samaṃ bhavet ..87..
“For the one in whose body there arises even a moment’s remembrance of the Guru—the merit equals that of ten million sacrifices, O Devi.”
Verse 8
गुरोः प्रसादमात्रेण महादोषा विनश्यति । कर्मबन्धविनिर्मुक्तः परमानन्दरूपभाक् ॥८८॥
guroḥ prasāda‑mātreṇa mahā‑doṣā vinaśyati; karma‑bandha‑vinirmuktaḥ param‑ānanda‑rūpa‑bhāk ..88..
“By the Guru’s mere grace, great faults perish; freed from karmic bonds, one partakes of supreme bliss.”
Verse 9
न गुरोरधिकं तत्त्वं न गुरोरधिकं तपः । न गुरोरधिकं ज्ञानं न गुरोरधिकं पदम् ॥८९॥
na guror adhikaṃ tattvaṃ na guror adhikaṃ tapaḥ; na guror adhikaṃ jñānaṃ na guror adhikaṃ padam ..89..
“There is no principle higher than the Guru, no austerity higher than the Guru; no knowledge higher than the Guru, no state higher than the Guru.”
Verse 10
यः करोति गुरुं नित्यं सर्वकर्मेषु साक्षिणम् । तस्य साक्षादुपस्थितिः परमात्मनि जायते ॥९०॥
yaḥ karoti guruṃ nityaṃ sarva‑karmeṣu sākṣiṇam; tasya sākṣād upasthitiḥ paramātmani jāyate ..90..
“He who makes the Guru the witness in all his acts—direct presence in the Supreme Self is born in him.”
Verse 11
मनसा वाचा कर्मणा गुरौ भक्तिं प्रयत्नतः । यः करोति स सिद्ध्येत ब्रह्मविद्यां सुदुर्लभाम् ॥९१॥
manasā vācā karmaṇā gurau bhaktiṃ prayatnataḥ; yaḥ karoti sa siddhyeta brahma‑vidyāṃ su‑durlabhām ..91..
“He who diligently renders devotion to the Guru by mind, speech, and deed—he attains the rare knowledge of Brahman.”
Verse 12
गुरुगीता सदाऽभ्यास्याऽभ्यस्याऽभ्यास्य मानवा । भुक्तिमुक्तिद्वयं तत्र नान्यथा लभ्यते क्वचित् ॥९२॥
guru‑gītā sadā’bhyasyā’bhyasyā’bhyasya mānavā; bhukti‑mukti‑dvayaṃ tatra nānyathā labhyate kvacit ..92..
“Humans should ever practice, practice, practice the Guru Gītā; there both enjoyment and liberation are obtained—not otherwise.”
Verse 13
यत्र तिष्ठति गुरुः साक्षाद् यत्र तिष्ठन्ति देवताः । तत्र सर्वाणि तीर्थानि तत्र सर्वं शुभं शुभम् ॥९३॥
yatra tiṣṭhati guruḥ sākṣād yatra tiṣṭhanti devatāḥ; tatra sarvāṇi tīrthāni tatra sarvaṃ śubhaṃ śubham ..93..
“Where the Guru abides in person, there the deities abide; there are all pilgrimage-places; there all is auspicious.”
Verse 14
गुरौ चित्तं सदा कृत्वा गुरोरङ्घ्रौ परं रतिम् । यः करोति स लोकेऽस्मिन् दुर्लभं लभते ध्रुवम् ॥९४॥
gurau cittaṃ sadā kṛtvā guror aṅghrau paraṃ ratim; yaḥ karoti sa loke’smin durlabhaṃ labhate dhruvam ..94..
“Fixing the mind ever on the Guru and supreme delight at the Guru’s feet—such a person surely attains what is otherwise hard to obtain.”
Verse 15
गुरुं विनाऽन्यवाक्यानि शृण्वन् यो न विचक्षणः । स तस्यार्थं न लभते योषितामिव वेषभृत् ॥९५॥
guruṃ vinānya‑vākyāni śṛṇvan yo na vicakṣaṇaḥ; sa tasyārthaṃ na labhate yoṣitām iva veṣa‑bhṛt ..95..
“He who, without the Guru, listens to other sayings and lacks discernment—he grasps not their meaning, like a man in women’s attire.”
Verse 16
नित्यं गुरुमुखान्निष्ठां कृत्वा योगी सदाऽचरन् । अचिरेणैव लभते परां सिद्धिं सनातनीम् ॥९६॥
nityaṃ guru‑mukhān niṣṭhāṃ kṛtvā yogī sadā’caran; acireṇaiva labhate parāṃ siddhiṃ sanātanīm ..96..
“By ever practicing with steadfastness in the Guru’s teachings, the yogin attains, in short time, the supreme and eternal accomplishment.”
Verse 17
गुरोर्गेहे वसेन्नित्यं गुरोः कार्येषु तत्परः । गुरुसेवाफलं लब्ध्वा परां गच्छति निष्क्रियाम् ॥९७॥
guroḥ gehe vasen nityaṃ guroḥ kāryeṣu tat‑paraḥ; guru‑sevā‑phalaṃ labdhvā parāṃ gacchati niṣkriyām ..97..
“Residing with the Guru, intent on the Guru’s tasks—gaining the fruits of service to the Guru—he reaches the supreme actionless state.”
Verse 18
गुरोर्निन्दां न कुर्यात् कदाचिदपि मानवः । गुरोराप्तं सुवर्णं हि रक्ष्यं जीवनसम्पदा ॥९८॥
guror nindāṃ na kuryāt kadācid api mānavaḥ; guror āptaṃ suvarṇaṃ hi rakṣyaṃ jīvana‑sampadā ..98..
“A person should never revile the Guru; what is received from the Guru is gold—guard it as the treasure of life.”
Verse 19
गुरुना तुष्यते यस्मात् तेन देवाः प्रसन्नकाः । गुरौ दुष्टे जगद्दुष्टं गुरौ सन्ते जगत्सदम् ॥९९॥
gurenā tuṣyate yasmāt tena devāḥ prasannakāḥ; gurau duṣṭe jagad duṣṭaṃ gurau sente jagat sadam ..99..
“When the Guru is pleased, the gods are gracious; when the Guru is displeased, the world is adverse; when the Guru is at peace, the world is well.”
Verse 20
गुरुगीता परं शास्त्रं सर्वोपनिषदां गरम् । तां ये पठन्ति नित्यं ते धन्याः परमाध्वरे ॥१००॥
guru‑gītā paraṃ śāstraṃ sarvopaniṣadāṃ garam; tāṃ ye paṭhanti nityaṃ te dhanyāḥ paramādhvare ..100..
“The Guru Gītā is the supreme scripture, the essence of all Upaniṣads; those who read it daily are blessed on the supreme path.”
